Marcel Hirscher has a mission this season and that is to win an Olympic Gold medal in Pyeongchang. After breaking his ankle in the summer, the chances of that happening seemed very remote and in the lead up to the Giant Slalom in Beaver Creek, he was talking about not quite having the equipment set up how he liked it. Yet Hirscher produced it when it really mattered as he came from third on the first run to win the opening Giant Slalom of the season with Henrik Kristoffersen taking second and first run leader Stefan Luitz third. This was a race and a half and just what the World Cup needed.
