It is the first time that the World Cup has returned to Squaw Valley for a World Cup race since 1969 and after almost circumnavigating the World since the last race in Europe, it is Mikaela Shiffrin who leads after run one. Shiffrin needs to beat Tessa Worley to keep her slim hopes of winning the Giant Slalom Globe and has a one place advantage over the French racer. Marta Bassino is in third place.
