With the traditional programme changed to allow the Downhill to happen, the Slalom took the centre stage on the Saturday in Wengen. Wengen has been a happy hunting ground for British racers as Alain Baxter scored several top ten results. The new Slalom skier grabbing the headlines from Britain is Dave Ryding and Ryding is starting to build a following and reignite the passion of British Alpine Ski racing’s fans. Last year was a disaster for Ryding but the form that Ryding has shown coming into the first of the classic Slaloms, has been really encouraging: Three top thirty results from five World Cup races is not to be sniffed at. Well make that four from six now! …
