British Bobsleigh & Skeleton (BBSA) is in rude health on the eve of the World Cup season with the announcement today of extended sponsorship deals and the BBC being announced as the BBSA’s ‘Official Broadcast Partner’ for the 2014/15 season. …

The deals come following British Skeleton’s outstanding season last year, with Lizzy Yarnold’s Olympic & overall World Cup successes, Shelley Rudman’s World Championship victory in St. Moritz and some stronger results for British Bobsleigh.

The 2013/14 season saw the BBC provide FIBT Skeleton World Cup coverage via the red button for the first time in its history and more than 5 million people watched Lizzy Yarnold’s gold medal-win at the Winter Olympics on the BBC. This year’s deal will see further enhancements to coverage of GB’s premier winter sport.

The arrangement for this season will again see coverage of the European leg of the World Cup tour – with live action on the BBC Sport website and highlights on the Red Button following Ski Sunday.

Live coverage of British Skeleton & Bobsleigh at the World Championships in Winterberg will be shown via the red button and an extended highlights programme will be produced for network TV.

There will also be written and video coverage of both the World Cup & World Championships on the BBC Sport website, which now has up to 20 million unique users each week.

BBSA Commercial Director, David Henwood, commented on the new broadcast partnership, saying: “We are delighted the BBC has decided to back the new BBSA and agreed to continue its broadcast partnership with both British bobsleigh and skeleton. We are also so pleased our key commercial partners have decided to continue their loyal support to Pyeongchang 2018. This strong backing off the ice means so much to our athletes, and means they can focus 100% on their performances”.

Skeleton in the UK has also strengthened its commercial backing since 2014, with Lloyd & Partners (Official Team Partner of British Skeleton) doubling its sponsorship and extending the term by a further four years, to the Pyeongchang Games in 2018. The new partnership will focus on providing key logistical support ahead of the Games in Korea, utilising the JLT Asia operations.

Official Partner for the Talent Squad, Ignite, will continue its contribution to finding GB’s next generation of sliders as they will work with the new athletes selected for the Talent Squad in January from the UK Sport’s Power2Podium talent identification programme.

BioCare, Official Nutrition Supplier, is another sponsor which will continue to work with British Skeleton this season to provide nutritional products that have been professionally tested under the ‘Informed Sport’ quality mark.

RockTape, leading suppliers of strength tape, will be supporting British Skeleton all the way to the Pyeongchang, having signed a four-year deal in January to be the ‘Official Kinesiology Tape Supplier’ to the Team.
