Ski or snowboard the height of Mount Everest this March in Saalbach (Austria) and help British people living with cancer. Get up to £300 off your next ski holiday and win some fantastic prizes! …

UK ski charity Ski 4 Cancer will be staging a series of Alpine challenges this winter in the leading Austrian ski resort of Saalbach Hinterglemm. Ski 4 Cancer will be running a challenge every week throughout March 2014.

Individuals or teams will be challenged to ski the vertical height of the World’s highest mountain, Mount Everest (29,029ft / 8,848m), in just one day. Beginners or intermediates can opt to ski the vertical height of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (12,461ft / 3,798m) or the height of Everest over two days.

By collecting sponsorship funds for Ski 4 Cancer, skiers and boarders can win a fantastic selection of prizes! The person who raises the most in terms of sponsorship will receive a seven night ski holiday for two people including flights and transfers, courtesy of Neilson. Other prizes from brands such as Oakley, Trespass and Atomic will be awarded for the best dressed, greatest horizontal distance skied and the slowest time!

Rob Foster, Director of Services at Ski 4 Cancer explained “Skiing or boarding the height of Mount Everest in one day is a tough challenge even for advanced skiers. That’s why we’re running a Großglockner challenge at the same time for beginners and lower intermediates. These events will be a lot of fun and they’re a great way to help people living with cancer.”

“We all know someone who has been affected… nearly 1,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer every day. So if you’ve yet to book your ski trip for this year, why not come along and join us. Alternatively, if you’ve already booked Saalbach for this March, why not get involved!”

Rob concluded “In addition to the amazing prizes on offer, people raising more than £300 for Ski 4 Cancer will receive money-off vouchers for their next ski or snowboard holiday. Each person taking part in the challenge could get up to £300 off their next winter holiday!”

Any competent skier or boarder with a valid Saalbach-Hinterglemm lift pass can take part. The challenges are scheduled to run on the following dates in March: 4th, 11th, 18th and the 25th. Ski 4 Cancer was set up by a group of keen skiers and snowboarders who have all lost a close relative or friend to cancer. By providing a range of Alpine respite holidays for families living with cancer, Ski 4 Cancer gives families something to look forward to at the end of treatment schedules or after a loved one has died. Ski 4 Cancer also makes grants to palliative care centres and supports research into the positive effects of exercise and how it can both prevent cancer and assist in recovery post diagnosis.
